David's pick
|
Award winning comedian
George Carlin will perform two incredible back to
back shows at the Grove of Anaheim on Sunday, May
18th. For 50 years Carlin, a revolutionary stand-up
comedian on social commentary, has used his
razor-sharp humor to reveal the hypocritical reality
of peoples’ actions and words. Refreshingly
forthright, Carlin cogently makes points that few in
his audience would dare to think much less express.
He is distinguished by his subject matter, unique
viewpoints, and his “in your face” delivery. A
comedian and actor Carlin has performed in13 HBO
specials. He has been awarded three Emmy
nominations, six CableACE award wins, and two
additional Emmy nominations in the early ‘90’s.

Living in San Clemente is a dream come true for
me. The people are fantastic, the shopping
quaint & unique and the food is both diverse and
delightful. Last night was just one of the many
nights that I have had the pleasure of dining at
Sonny’s Pizza & Pasta. Now, if you are trying to
have a secret rendezvous…this bustling
restaurant is NOT the place to go. But if you
are looking for authentic Italian food served
with southern California flair - Sonny’s is the
place. This local hot-spot is a favorite by
townies and you can tell that on any given
night by the crowd
milling around outside. Their
success can be attributed not only to the food
but also to the hands-on
father/daughter owners, Sonny and Julie. Julie
can be seen most nights, greeting patrons and
running the front of house, she is such a doll.
I also like the fact that Sonny’s
is so involved in the community. More than once
San Clemente High School has sent parents an
invite to dine at Sonny’s and a percentage |
|
would then be donated to the High School.
Once seated outside on the open air patio we
ordered the usual… a 1/2 liter of the house
Chianti, a Vegetarian Salad and the Eggplant
Parmigiana. Splitting this meal is our
preference as it allowed us to enjoy the meal
and not stress too much about the calories. The
vegetarian salad is perfect to share and as it
arrived, I realized that I could have made this
my complete meal very easily. Arriving next was
the Eggplant Parmigiana which was accompanied by
a generous side of pasta (we chose the Rigatoni
with marinara sauce) plus a basket of very
aromatic garlic bread. Also a favorite, the
Sonny's White Pizza made with their special
alfredo sauce topped with spinach & mushrooms. The service was friendly
& prompt, the atmosphere lively & relaxed and
the cost very reasonable. It’s no wonder that I
return to Sonny’s time and time again.
