Doheny Blues Festival, May 17th & 18th, Quinn's pick

Doheny Blues Festival

Omega Events is proud to announce that nine-time Grammy Award Winner BONNIE RAITT will headline the 2008 Doheny Blues Festival. As a lifelong environmental activist and inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, we are honored that Raitt has agreed to appear at Doheny State Beach. Led by John Cleary on keys, Raitt's festival performances are always rockin'... and quite rare!

Joining Bonnie will be Jonny... as in young guitarist & singer JONNY LANG, making his first appearance at Doheny since 2003. Lang burst onto the music scene in 1996 at the age of 15, capturing critical acclaim and worldwide fans.

Duck-a-Thon, May 16th, David's pick
The Annual Duck-A-Thon is an exciting Huntington Beach tradition. This off-the-pier fundraiser incorporates all the best qualities: Sand, Sun, Surf, Food and rubber duckies! The Duck-A-Thon begins Friday evening with a Sunset Wine Tasting at the Pier. This beautiful setting provides as a wonderful kick-off for the weekend. Local restaurants supply an array of tantalizing hors d’oeuvres while wineries from across California donate boutique wines that are poured all evening. The actual Duck-A-Thon takes place all day Saturday & Sunday. Vendors line Huntington Beach Pier Plaza to sell arts & crafts, yummy treats, home décor, jewelry and much more.

Hyatt Regency Summer Jazz Festival, May 16th - 18th, Quinn's pick

Hyatt Regency Summer Jazz Festival

I am a huge lover of jazz so when the the jazz festival comes to town... I get all excited! Southern California’s most famous Smooth Jazz Festival returns to the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach on May 16th, 17th and 18th. Three spectacular days of world class performances by 25 top jazz artists. Listen to the sounds of Mindi Abair, Rick Braun, Steve Cole, Gerald Albright, Bobby Caldwell, Wayman Tisdale, The Rippingtons, Brain Culberson and Euge Groove! Bring a low back chair, sunscreen and hat along with you as this very fun event is located on the grass at the beautiful Hyatt.

George Carlin, May 18th, David's pick
Award winning comedian George Carlin will perform two incredible back to back shows at the Grove of Anaheim on Sunday, May 18th. For 50 years Carlin, a revolutionary stand-up comedian on social commentary, has used his razor-sharp humor to reveal the hypocritical reality of peoples’ actions and words. Refreshingly forthright, Carlin cogently makes points that few in his audience would dare to think much less express. He is distinguished by his subject matter, unique viewpoints, and his “in your face” delivery. A comedian and actor Carlin has performed in13 HBO specials. He has been awarded three Emmy nominations, six CableACE award wins, and two additional Emmy nominations in the early ‘90’s.

 Relay For Life, May 17th & 18th, Quinn's pick

What is Relay? Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of 10 to 15 people or more from all walks of life camp out at Newport Harbor High School and take turns walking and running around the track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times, while special entertainment, music, and fun activities keep things lively. It is hours of fun and everyone is welcome. My cousin Beckie was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and we've also found out that it has now spread to her liver. She is the most giving and loved person and well... I feel helpless and also MAD at this devastating disease. FIGHT BACK and help out by walking in the Relay For Life! Please join me by signing up to donate and/or walk won't you?

Living in San Clemente is a dream come true for me. The people are fantastic, the shopping quaint & unique and the food is both diverse and delightful. Last night was just one of the many nights that I have had the pleasure of dining at Sonny’s Pizza & Pasta. Now, if you are trying to have a secret rendezvous…this bustling restaurant is NOT the place to go. But if you are looking for authentic Italian food served with southern California flair - Sonny’s is the place. This local hot-spot is a favorite by townies and you can tell that on any given night by the crowd milling around outside. Their success can be attributed not only to the food but also to the hands-on father/daughter owners, Sonny and Julie. Julie can be seen most nights, greeting patrons and running the front of house, she is such a doll. I also like the fact that Sonny’s is so involved in the community. More than once San Clemente High School has sent parents an invite to dine at Sonny’s and a percentage

would then be donated to the High School.

Once seated outside on the open air patio we ordered the usual… a 1/2 liter of the house Chianti, a Vegetarian Salad and the Eggplant Parmigiana. Splitting this meal is our preference as it allowed us to enjoy the meal and not stress too much about the calories. The vegetarian salad is perfect to share and as it arrived, I realized that I could have made this my complete meal very easily. Arriving next was the Eggplant Parmigiana which was accompanied by a generous side of pasta (we chose the Rigatoni with marinara sauce) plus a basket of very aromatic garlic bread. Also a favorite, the Sonny's White Pizza made with their special alfredo sauce topped with spinach & mushrooms. The service was friendly & prompt, the atmosphere lively & relaxed and the cost very reasonable. It’s no wonder that I return to Sonny’s time and time again. Learn more>
